Round up

Kicking off the start to summer in style, April and My heralded an electric line-up of live talent along the length and breath of the county. California’s own Ugly Duckling appeared in Newquay, courtesy of Jelly Jazz, and treated the town to their legendary funky hip hop. The prolific Barnaby Ray Quartet, Groove Juice and DJ Samo kept the party going, while some of the UK’s most prolific skaters hit the ramp at the Street Sounds Skate Jam event taking Penryn’s Stannary by storm. Down Newquay way, crazy haired Coolio strutted his stuff – although ‘Gangster Paradise’ was not on the menu, to the disappointment of some (Cornwall’s gangsters most probably). Ola Onable’s ‘feel good’ music did exactly what it said on the tin as Wadebridge saw the singer – songwriter deliver everything from jazz to funk, gospel to soul. Killer Kellar rocked Penryn following DJ Format’s unfortunate no show – but the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Morrissey lamented to a sold out crowd in Truro and hot on his heels, The Zutons blessed revellers with their unique brand of bluesy, rootsy, indie rock. Most recently, London Elektricity and D Bridge graced The Stannary with their presence and electrified the house with an abundance of drum & bass. And with an impressive line ups at the Eden sessions, Boardmasters, K Fest and plenty more on its way, this summer is shaping up to be a beauty.
