December 2007
...So
when I say 'tomorrow', this could very well mean the day after the
day you were thinking about yesterday. Let's get down to it.
Guardian
Jobs have as always, their massive seasonal offering of jobs with
an emphasis on media sales for this week at least.
The Graduate Recruitment Co are looking for a media
sales exec who will be working on behalf of a 'top national
publishing company'.They are also looking for people to fill the
roles of: online
sales executive (up to £24k), graduate
recruitment advertising sales
exec (£19k), a graduate media sales executive,
an online
sales executive (£24k) and as if that wasn't enough, a
sales
executive for their consumer magazine client (£17k)
PFJ
are also looking for a media
sales executive (although this one is infinitely better paid
at £22,000 + OTE), a display
sales executive for 'a leading financial magazine', and a senior
sales executive for some b2b publication(£40k+).
As
for editorial, those jobs are never far away. Some
publishing house called Kaplan Aspect need a media
assistant (a great looking opportunity for any self-respecting
media studies related graduate), the MOD (of all people) advertise
for a reporter
(24k a year -- very well paid at least), PFJ again seek a reporter
for their B2B client title (again, v.well paid: £25k). Moneywise,
a title known by them as 'the UK's best-selling personal finance
magazine' need an editorial
assistant - great for someone looking to make their first break
into financial journalism, CMP Information's B2B title 'The
Chemist & Druggist' need a reporter, and some arty publication
need an assistant
editor.
Over
on Gorkana PR, Construction Week are looking for both a features
editor and a reporter
-- if you can do both at the same time, demand a fat salary. Mobile
Magazine need a reporter, the Solicitors Journal seek both a senior
reporter and a features
editor and Reuters need sub-editors.
If
you want some work experience or internships, they are always close
at hand; a "luxury fashion, culture and thought quarterly"
called 400 Magazine launches in March next year and they are after
keen editorial
and fashion interns to start mid-Jan 2008. New Woman magazine
still have a fashion
internship available,Men's Health have both an editorial
and a design internship on offer, while some newbie 'social
networking/shopping website called OSOYOU.COM want a fashion intern.
Incidentally,
the BBC are always advertising their work-experience slots so check
out their jobs website for what's hot and what's not. But if you
do decide to apply, don't expect a fast response.
Over
on Journalism.co.uk, Mortgage Strategy (Centaur) need a features
assistant and gratifyingly enough, no experience is necessary.
The Publishing and Events Group at Pira International is seeking
freelancers
to contribute to its fortnightly newsletters on emerging industries,
the Financial Express need an online
journalist , while Legal Week want a reporter
to fill their role.

OK,
just a quickie today -- more to follow tomorrow. On Gorkana, The
News of the World have a shedload of jobs going: if you fancy writing
for their (NoTW's) Sunday magazine supplement, they are looking
for a
features writer, a
features editor, a lifestyle
editor AND a celebrity
editor. Other than that, Thompson Financial Nws are looking
for correspondents
to join their Amsterdam, Copenhaden and Zurich offices, in addition
to sub-editors
and a daily briefing reporter.
If
moving to Scotland floats your boat, then The Daily Record need
a news
reporter while The Scotsman STILL advertise their post for a
business
reporter.
As
for internships, they're still in abundance...New Woman magazine
still have a fashion
internship available,Men's Health have both an editorial
and a design internship on offer, while some newbie 'social
networking/shopping website called OSOYOU.COM want a fashion intern.
If
you've ever wanted A-grade work experience in online journalism
that will shine out on your CV, Joblog.org.uk
are offering opportunities to the right candidates who would like
to be at the forefront of our expansion programme. The right candidate(s)
will be allocated a section according to interests and they will
have complete autonomy in commissioning features and writing content.

Anyway,
as for what other publishing houses and titles are offering, there
is, as always, a wide old range to get your mind ticking into overtime.
On Gumtree, some company called The News Market are offering a paid
internship (at £250 pw, that's the best pay I've seen
for w/exp!) , an editorial
assistant is needed for a start-up sports business B2B publication,
and a freelance
web writer is needed to work for a website called eMomentum.
As
for Guardian Jobs, it would appear that it's all about media sales.
Sales
executives are sought by The Graduate Recruitment Co to sell
media services; they also are looking for graduate subscription
sales executives-- details rather vague but OTE very reasonable.
A celebrity
researcher is needed by The Red Pages, a trade magazine called
RRP have a reporter
role for a graduate or second jobber, and a temporary
media sales executive (£12 per hour) is needed in central
London.
On
Gorkana, More are looking for a freelance
designer, the BBC's Good Homes magazine are also looking for
design
people, but on more of a full time permanent basis, and some
new ski magazine are looking for bloggers
in resorts (if mixing business with pleasure floats your boat!).Scotland's
The Daily Record are looking for a reporter
to join its Glasgow office and also in Scotland, The Scotsman
need a business reporter.
Bliss
magazine advertise a shiny post for any discerning graduate -- they
need an editorial
assistant to join ranks asap and so too does DIVA
magazine. Colchester-based weekly women’s title Full House!
is looking for a features
writer and Look also need a feature
writer. If designing pages is your forte, then OK magazine have
the position of junior
designer open -- a great looking one.
As
for work experience, a food mag called Fresh need someone to fill
a 6-month stint as intern,
Men's Health Magazine are broadening their remit to include design
work experience as well as their conventional slots. More magazine
have a position as features
intern post still open and the News of The World's Sunday Magazine
also still have theirs open.
